History

The Chalkopráteia begin as an imperial hunting ground. The Chalkopráteia extends over several forested islands and wetland meadows. The Chalkopráteia has a rich holding of many types game, and for centuries up until Empress Zoe II of Diadochia (R. 1762-1796) opened the Chalkopráteia to the public in 1769, it was the scene of extravagant Court hunts, and was closed to the general public.

After the Chalkopráteia was opened in 1769 to the general public by Empress Zoe II, cafés and taverns started popping up all over the park. Around 1769 Atlantis' fairground and chief amusement park the Chalkopráteia Loúna Park emerged and became a huge visitor attraction.
