Franz von Urbach

Count Franz von Urbach (1834-1912) was a Braslander nobleman. He was the son of Count Alexander von Urbach.

Franz was one of the richest men in Brasland, as well as the head of one of the most prestigious families of the realm. With such credentials, he believed himself worthy of the hand of Princess Margaretha, the daughter of King George II. Initially reluctant, the monarch eventually gave his consent to the match. The couple married in 1861 and had seven children: Juliette (born 1863), Marie Helene (born 1865), Friedrich (born 1867), Otto (1869-1883), Alexander (born 1871), Pauline (1874) and Philippa (born 1877).

Franz relished with his connections to the royal family and was a frequent guest at Court events. His wife was a very regal woman with a strong personality, a little arrogant and also a great sense of duty. She was extremely active in society and was quite outspoken in her opinions.

The Urbachs divided their time between the social season in Markund, the winters at Schloss Niederurbach, the summers at the Marguerite Palace in Halvan and several other residences.

Franz died peacefully in 1912 at his Markund home, Urbach Palace. His wife followed him a year later, devastated by his death.
