Jaketon is a city in and county seat of Brooks County, Alaska, within the Jaketon–Riverside Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the Cascadian capital. The city's population was 473,697 at the 2014 census making it the most populous city in the state of Alaska and the Nation's fouth largest city.
McGovern University with its 23,000 students is located in Jaketon, along with the Alaska State University's Jaketon Campus. The city's daily newspaper is The Jaketon Post, while The Caller is published weekly.
The city is a hub for transportation, being served by four of the Interstates in Alaska. Jaketon International Airport sits just across the Collier county line in Palmont. The airport serves just over a million passengers annually and is still expanding to meet the projected needs for the city. Nearly a quarter of all state-owned highways are within the Jaketon Metro area, as well as several Cascadian National Routes.

Education
The city is served by the Jaketon Independent School District, which operates many public schools throughout the city and nearby unincorporated suburbia. The are also many private schools within the city, religious and otherwise. Due to serving the nations capital, Jaketon I.S.D. receives millions of dollars in grants from the federal government, allowing them to keep up with the city's rapid expantion and to hire the best teachers in the nation.
The Alaska State University System operates its Jaketon Campus at 500 Northridge Ave, Northridge, Alaska 97753, in one of the city's more affluent suburbs. McGovern University, one of the most prestigious in Cascadia, lies in the southeast portion of the city, at 1348 Constitution Ave, Jaketon Alaska 97704.
Government
City Government
The city has a mayor-council type government, with the mayor elected by the city at-large every four years. Elections take place in off-years to avoid adding to the already existing pandamonium for the national presidential elections. The Jaketon City Council consists of four members elected to represent the four wards of the city. The council votes on local ordinances and the city budget. The mayor holds a vote only to break ties.
County Government
Brooks County maintains the county courthouse, an annex, and the county records building within the city limits. Nearly all administrative functions are preformed within the City of Jaketon. The Brooks County Sheriff's Department operates its headquarters at 8374 N. Ozio Road, just outside of the downtown area.
