The Socialist Federal Union of Noria and Darinus is a democratic federal republic in the Democratic Socialist Federation. Noria and Darius is comprised of 2 republics and 4 provinces, each republic is divided into 11 administrative regions called counties and one capital city. Provinces are made up of 9 counties and 1 provincial capital. The capital city of the Union is Eboracum which has autonomous status.

The Republic of Noria

The first and oldest nation in the union Noria has gone through some significant changes over time.

Geography of The Republic of Noria

The geography of Noria and Darinus varies hugely due to the fact the nation is so large. Geography in Noria:

From Noria’s high mountains, to Cilmoynac’s low flat lands, the geography of Noria and Darinus varies massively due to its immense size. The climate across the nation is similar in the fact it has severe winter storms and mild summers. Noria is a large round nation connected to Brytan to the South East. It is matted with 3 large mountain ranges, one on the west coast, one on the south coast, and one which separates it from Brytan. The coasts are battered by fierce storms all year around, with only the Tinshill Cove being sheltered. The Norian people often must deal with coastal flooding however they have recently been able to mitigate them more effectively with the establishment of the Environmental Agency. The significance of the storms holds some sway with the residents of Noria’s coastal towns. Although they are not devastating like they used to be, the effects bring the community together and practical workers, such as electricians, Plumber and handymen are invaluable to the survival of the regions. Further inland and protected from the storms are the large cities of Noria, including the Capital of the Union, Eboracum. The mountains of Noria protect the centre of the country very effectively from the storms, therefore, the people could establish large cities and towns separated by large farmlands and woodland. The woodlands of Noria are extensive and dense, they have always been revered and protected by the people as a valuable resource. The same way the residents of the coasts come together to protect each other after a storm, the city dwellers always back up the farmers and woodlanders whenever an issue arises. Logging and mining are strictly regulated as a result.

In Noria inland climate is ripe for growing many different food stuffs. Most commonly grown is wheat and barley, which contributes to the large Craft Ale expansion in the recent past. Historically Noria has been the agrarian heart of the continent due to its volcanic past giving the area abundant fertile land. The coastal towns are reliant on fishing and some small-scale agriculture. In the past, fishermen often went to the shallow coasts off the Northern Coast for smaller fish such as the Dunnis Cod or the Norian Pink Haddock, however, nowadays the catch they aspire to get are the larger Blue Finned Marlin and the Darinus White Tailed Tuna. They used to be allowed to catch whales about 100 years ago but the population was decimated by over whaling during the industrial revolution, a ban was enacted and is still in place even though the populations are back. Even traditionalists are staunchly anti-whaling. Throughout the country beef is most widely eaten, pork and chicken are also staples. Norian food has always had traditional roots, with roast dinners common every Friday and fish and chips on Sundays. Exotic food is not frowned upon and is actively encouraged with the immigration campaigns. In the bigger cities, weekly foreign food nights are common in most establishments and foreign food restaurants are subsidised by the Culture Department. The population are well fed and healthy with no real food shortages, even for the poorer citizens.

Noria’s most abundant resource would be its wood. The woodlands of Noria are so vast that it is easy to get lost 5 minutes from the cities. Roughly 50% of the flatlands in the middle of Noria are forests. There have been measures put in place by the Regional Ranger Corp to combat this and missing persons are at an all-time low. Other abundant resources are coal, oil, and natural gas, these are mined albeit carefully and heavily regulated. All fossil fuels are exported to developing nations on the condition they are used to help them convert to renewable energy in the long term. This strategy has been successful in Mance and Danland. Noria does not use fossil fuels in any capacity. The resource used to power the country is wind, hydro and solar power. Off the coasts of Noria are the world’s largest offshore wind farms. They generate 98% of the country’s energy supply and the remaining 2% from solar and hydro plants. The most valuable resource in Noria is not oil or natural gas but gold. Norian rivers and deltas are brimming with gold and have been a major export from the region for hundreds of years. Because gold mining is prohibited upstream, there has always been a steady supply in the deltas and city rivers.

Transport, for hundreds of years, was very difficult in Noria. Before trains, planes and cars Noria was notoriously hard to navigate. The dense forests in the middle of the country meant that only a few national routes were established before 1720. The mountains made some coasts inaccessible for a third of the year and the rivers have always been strong flowing making them hard to navigate. Since the industrial period, Norian transport has been built to the highest standards in the world. The Norian Transport Authority (NTA) have been pivotal in the development of the country. The breakthrough were the 10 tunnels built by the Sanderson Company in 1836-79. Adam Sanderson was the original pioneer of the tunnels and his son carried on his projects when he died. They have revolutionised the travel to and from the coastal areas cut off during the year and the train lines have reduced travel time by 95%. In 1836 it would have taken 7 hours to reach the southern coast from Eboracum, in 2016 it takes 10 minutes on the direct line.

The is only one land border with Noria and that is with Brytan another member of the Union, therefore the borders of Noria are incredibly secure and there are rarely any attacks from outside the nation. The coasts are protected by the coast guard which patrol day and night whatever the weather. Because it is relatively isolated, not many people attempt the incredibly dangerous sea crossing from Axopia to Noria. The population of Noria has grown exponentially since the industrial revolution and the population today is 432,323,645 from the 2015 census. The census is taken every 10 years so the next one will be in 2025. The mountain regions are the least populated with roughly 5% of the populous based there. Second are the coastal regions where 35% of the population live. The largest population base is the flat middle of Noria where 60% of the population live with 85% of those living near the rivers and cities. The forests are largely avoided for living in as 95% of the forest area is protected from development.

Domestically animals are allowed as pets and the most common are dogs, cats and rabbits. Animal imports are tightly controlled as is selective breeding. Pure breeds are the most popular dogs and cats. Dogs which are known to have medical difficulties from selective breeding are outlawed. In the forests the Norian Eagle is the most prominent bird of prey and is the national animal of Noria. Its red feathers are easily seen and admired by the world and many tourists come to see them glide and nest in the forests. Other wild animals usually congregate around the forests as other areas are usually built up. The most common plants are the Norian Grand Oak which make up ~70% of the forests and the Brytan Beech which make up populations to the south east. Household plants are gardens are encouraged and the streets of Noria require, by law, to have at least 2 trees per building.

Timeline of Noria

Written records of Noria go back ~3000 years as defined by both the Historical Society and the Culture Department. There have been claims by some scholars in the North West that the records go back to 4500BCE but the sources are not as firm. The records do agree that Noria was founded as a petty kingdom around Eboracum in 789BCE. It was founded by the Norric House
