The straight-backed, broad-smiling populace of Atrigeas eagerly dismissed concerns of oppression. Nations in the region are considered developing democracies, with some political freedoms afforded to denizens. Underwater basket weaving is a popular tradition amongst the denizens of the region, as well as its primary economic export. The median tax rate of the region is 44%, but is frequently higher for the wealthy. The economies of nations in the region tend to be weighted more towards the private sector, with on average only 41% of the economy comprising the public sector.
