The Radiant

The Radiant is a medium-sized region, with a thriving community of 35 nations and only 9 World Assembly Members.

In The Radiant, denizens scatter at the sight of strangers and are careful to keep carefully blank faces when approached. Political freedoms are extended only to close friends and relatives of the leaders of the region's governments. The almost total lack of economic activity in the country is a constant sore spot for politicians. Inhabitants rarely are visited by the tax collector, and the region boasts a paltry median tax rate of -1%. The economies of nations in the region tend to be dominated by the private sector, with on average only -1% of the economy comprising the public sector. Commerce is low priority for governments, accounting for an average of -1% of public expenditure, although commerce is generally seen as a source of tax revenue.

Denizens of the The Radiant are poorly educated, with rampant illiteracy. Criminality is rife within the region, with law enforcement struggling to cope. Governments allocate a meagre -1%, on average, of their budgets to law and order. Denizens have small defense forces. Public transport is an afterthought, with only -1% of total government budgets in the region being devoted to it.

Governments in The Radiant find themselves in a constant state of disarray, with very little co-ordination, only -1% on average of government budgets being devoted to Administration. Some government provision is made for healthcare, but at an average of only -1% the provision for healthcare in the region is paltry. Welfare in the region is minimal, with only a small amount of expenditure being devoted to spending on social security. Spirituality is a moderate priority of governments within the region, with-1% of government budgets being devoted to Spirituality.

Social inequality is rife amongst the nations within The Radiant. The environments of the nations in the region are almost universally appalling.

History

The Radiant was founded on March 28, 2016 by Bradfordsborough. The next day, on March 29, New Bradfordsburg joined the region.

The Radiant remained a home exclusively for Dux Bradford John's empire until August of 2016, when the region finally surpassed 10 nations on Aug. 5, 2016. Small recruiting drives, targeted at individual World Assembly voters, led to the early recruitment of nations like Lussia, Odinburgh, and Pontas.

With a small population of WA nations, The Radiant grew over 20 nations for the first time on Sept. 9, 2016, with 22 nations. 11 days later, on Sept. 20, The Radiant again fell to a population below 20 nations.

On Sept. 25, 2016, The Radiant had only 16 nations and was floundering.

Faced with the prospect of The Radiant fading into obscurity, Dux Bradford John made a decision to recruit the entire WA and held the long-awaited recruiting drive on Oct. 2, 2016.

The First Awakening

On Oct. 2, 2016 with a regional population of 18 nations, 2016 New Bradfordsburg sent out a recruitment telegram to all WA nations in NationStates, which totaled more than 23,000 nations.

The recruitment telegram advocated The Radiant's regional map and upcoming elections, and promised an active regional government involved in world affairs.

24 hours later, on Oct. 3, 2016 The Radiant grew to its largest population yet: 27 nations.

On Oct. 4, 2016 The Radiant grew to 34 nations; and on Oct. 5, 2016 The Radiant grew to 38 nations. By October 19, The Radiant grew to a population of 74 nations, with over 20 members of WA status.

Pontas served as the first officially recognized WA Delegate of The Radiant's organized regional government.

In early October, the Dáxlamic Council convened and broad and sweeping powers were granted to The Radiant's founding nation. These powers included the ability to enforce Dáxlam as the official religion of The Radiant, and the ability to veto legislation.

Nonetheless, The Radiant flourished and, despite a dip back to 35 nations on Nov. 5, 2016, The Radiant was back to a population of 70 nations by Dec. 10, 2016. On Jan. 3, 2017 The Radiant grew to 81 nations.

The Radiant would keep a population above 60 nations until Feb. 23, 2017.

The regional government blamed the ensuing population decline in March of 2017 to WA multi's that had been created and ejected from the WA by several council nations within The Radiant.

By April 1, 2017, The Radiant had sunk to a population of 29 nations, with a founder that was teetering on the brink of ceasing to exist.

In April of 2017, New Bradfordsburg and the founding state of The Radiant, Bradfordsborough, went extinct, leaving The Radiant founderless.

On May 3, 2017, The Radiant fell from a population of 33 nations to 17 nations on May 4 as the remaining WA nations within The Radiant fled to Radiant Republic, a region that was founded by Odinburgh. On July 2, 2017 with a population of 8 nations within The Radiant, Dux Bradford John revived the nations of Bradfordsborough and New Bradfordsburg.

By July 3, 2017, both nations had been reactivated and one of the first official acts of New Bradfordsburg was to denounce Radiant Republic. New Bradfordsburg asked nations in Radiant Republic to return to The Radiant upon its revival and began threatening the continued existence of Radiant Republic in early July.

A population spike in late July and early August of 2017 can be attributed to New Bradfordsburg's client states, which were moved into the region by Dux Bradford John.

With efforts to reunite The Radiant floundering, New Bradfordsburg allowed many puppet nations to go extinct and The Radiant sank to a population of 4 nations on Aug. 23, 2017.

The War of The Radiants

In early October of 2017, New Bradfordsburg began reviving puppets and repopulating The Radiant.

Dux Bradford John reached out to regions that had signed the Interregional Treaty Cooperation Organization with The Radiant, including The Commonwealth of Crowns, United Empire of Islam, and Central Pacific Empire. The Dux asked for support in evicting Radiant Republic from the treaty.

The Radiant declared war upon Radiant Republic on Oct. 5, 2017.

For almost two weeks, a stalemate ensued. In mediation, which involved Western Arab Empire and New Nationale Einheit, the Dux began threatening to raid Radiant Republic.

New Bradfordsburg's threats were, in large part, taken without seriousness by nations residing in Radiant Republic and mediators discouraged the Dux from recruiting raiders.

On Oct. 17, 2017, Radiant Republic was raided and the WA Delegate, Odinburgh, was unseated.

A nation controlled by Dux Bradford John, Winterstan, gained control of the region and cancelled all embassies, suppressed all posts, banned several nations, changed the world factbook and raised The Radiant's flag over Radiant Republic.

When Odinburgh became aware of the raid, Lussia and Shreminov were ejected from Radiant Republic and suspected of assisting in the orchestration of the raids. While Lussia would return to Radiant Republic, Shreminov joined The Radiant.

Odinburgh directed the nations within Radiant Republic to flee to Great Socialist States of Odinovich, and peace talks began between Odinburgh and New Bradfordsburg.

New Bradfordsburg and Odinburgh signed a peace treaty on Oct. 17, 2017.

Conflict reignited the next day, on Oct. 18, as raiders from Fear Johnism, enlisted by Dux Bradford John, announced they intended to continue their campaign against both Great Socialist States of Odinovich and a longtime ally of The Radiant, Order of the Southern North.

On Oct. 18, 2017, Shreminov became the WA Delegate of The Radiant's 29 nations.

On Oct. 19, 2017, The Radiant survived an attempted raid by actors from Eurasian Nomadic States, who arrived minutes before a WA update from Fear Johnism.

With less than 3 minutes before the WA update, Dux Bradford John banned and ejected over 10 raiding nations, keeping The Radiant's record intact as a region with an executive WA Delegate that has never been successfully raided.

New Bradfordsburg alerted forces in Order of the Southern North, and Great Socialist States of Odinovich, about the intentions of raiders who wished to continue war, despite a peace treaty. Both Odinburgh and New Bradfordsburg announced their intent to stand united against the raider threat.

After 48 hours of private talks, involving Odinburgh and New Bradfordsburg, Odinburgh announced that Great Socialist States of Odinovich would reunite with The Radiant.

On October 25, 2017, WA nations from Great Socialist States of Odinovich began relocating to The Radiant.

Raiders against The Radiant intended to take advantage of the reunification plans and, on Oct. 26, 2017, a raid was repelled from Great Socialist States of Odinovich.

Within two days, The Radiant jumped from 30 nations to a population of 48 nations on Oct. 27, 2017.

The Second Awakening

The Second Awakening of The Radiant began on Oct. 27, 2017, when The Radiant reunified with ex-patriots that had been aligned with Odinburgh in The War of The Radiants.

By November, nearly all nations aligned with Odinburgh who resided in The Radiant before the war had returned to the region from Great Socialist States of Odinovich; including Lussia, Krimera, Hadoniacesher, Candelli, and Zhukovian.

On Nov. 1, 2017, The Radiant had a population of 49 nations and this date would mark the last day that The Radiant would hold a population of less than 50 nations.

The Radiant steadily grew in early November of 2017, reaching 66 nations by Nov. 12.

On Nov. 8, 2017, Odinburgh re-assumed the position of WA Delegate in The Radiant, after Shreminov ceded authority in recognition of a recent election in Radiant Republic which had elected Odinburgh. New Bradfordsburg also recognized the Radiant Republic's election of Odinburgh as WA Delegate, and stated the election was valid within The Radiant.

On Nov. 12, 2017, Dux Bradford John began a recruitment drive targeted at WA nations within The Pacific, The North Pacific, The South Pacific, The East Pacific, and The West Pacific.

By Nov. 13, 2017, The Radiant grew to a population of 75 nations, and on the next day, Nov. 14, 2017, The Radiant topped its previous population apex of 81 nations by growing to a population of 86 nations.

The day after, on Nov. 15, 2017, The Radiant grew to 97 nations.

The astonishing growth during November 2017 continued, as The Radiant reached 100 nations on Nov. 16 and by Nov. 21, the region grew to 119 nations.

During the growth, The Constitution of The Radiant had been approved unanimously, nearly 20 WA nations had been added to the regional map, and regional minister of war, homeland security, foreign affairs, civil affairs, intelligence, and economy had been elected.

Through Dec. 10, 2017, The Radiant maintained a population of over 120 nations consistently before another recruitment drive began in earnest on Dec. 11, 2017.

As of Dec. 18, 2017, The Radiant continues to reap the benefits of The Second Awakening and has grown to a population of 129 nations, the 101th most in the world.

Government

The Radiant's governmental structure is unique and has three main branches of power.

The Council of The Radiant governs The Radiant through legislation and binding resolutions. Council nations can also freely call elections, run for office and vote. Nations on The Council of The Radiant, sometimes called the Dáxlamic Council, must be either WA nations or verified members of the offsite forums.

The executive authority of The Radiant is the WA Delegate, and this nation also serves as Governor of The Radiant.

The WA Delegate is elected, and may face snap elections, but is also entrusted with executive authorities, including border control and the ability to accept embassies.

A third figure, The Spiritual Father, is written into the Constitution.

In The Radiant, The Spiritual Father applies to Dux Bradford John, who controls the founding nation of The Radiant, and the WA nation New Bradfordsburg.

The activities of The Spiritual Father are, in the modern day, delegated to maintaining the security of the region in coordination with The Radiant's regional government.
