Trade Federation

Trade Federation is a small region, sparsely populated by only 5 nations and only one World Assembly Member.

In Trade Federation, denizens scatter at the sight of strangers and are careful to keep carefully blank faces when approached. Political freedoms are extended only to close friends and relatives of the leaders of the region's governments. The almost total lack of economic activity in the country is a constant sore spot for politicians. Inhabitants rarely are visited by the tax collector, and the region boasts a paltry median tax rate of -1%. The economies of nations in the region tend to be dominated by the private sector, with on average only -1% of the economy comprising the public sector. Commerce is low priority for governments, accounting for an average of -1% of public expenditure, although commerce is generally seen as a source of tax revenue.

Denizens of the Trade Federation are poorly educated, with rampant illiteracy. Criminality is rife within the region, with law enforcement struggling to cope. Governments allocate a meagre -1%, on average, of their budgets to law and order. Denizens have small defense forces. Public transport is an afterthought, with only -1% of total government budgets in the region being devoted to it.

Governments in Trade Federation find themselves in a constant state of disarray, with very little co-ordination, only -1% on average of government budgets being devoted to Administration. Some government provision is made for healthcare, but at an average of only -1% the provision for healthcare in the region is paltry. No welfare is provided in the region. Those unlucky enough to fall into unemployment are forgotten and abandoned. Spirituality is a moderate priority of governments within the region, with-1% of government budgets being devoted to Spirituality.

In Trade Federation, Social inequality is total, with wealth being held by a tiny fraction of the region's populace. The environments of the nations in the region are almost universally appalling.

History

2003 - 2004: The Early Years

According to NSHistory, the earliest mention of the Trade Federation was around May 2003, some time after the inception of NationStates. Not much was known about this brief period; the first incarnation of the region lasted about a month until the nameless founder ceased.

Activity didn't pick up until the spring of 2004 when the second incarnation arose. During this time, Ekeko presumed the position of delegate, and the region reached its peak with six members.

The third Trade Federation began in the fall of that year. Elmora was elected the delegate of the region, which was home to a small population. This period would last until the end of 2004.

2005 - 2010: The Lost Years

Between 2005 and 2010, the Trade Federation experienced periods of short-lived regimes and years of isolation. A total of five incarnations existed in this era, each having a lone member. No other information have been found about these incarnations during this long, murky period. It was hypothesized that the Trade Federation was a part of another larger region.

2013: New Beginnings

On September 2, 2013, the current incarnation of the region was formed. This date is celebrated every year as the region's founding date. Soon after its founding, a small government consisting of a chairman and a board of directors was established around this time. The region was led by the principal owner, Trade and Commerce, along with board members, Silecia and Tinshein. A veteran player named Lioh joined the region around this time and became the Chief Security Officer. Other than the founder himself, Lioh's tenure as CSO remained by far the longest to date.

Imperialism

By late September, the Trade Federation slowly began to initiate an imperialist and defender agenda. The federation made its first successful countermands against a small raiding region called The Ring of Fire, which resulted in the acquisition of its former regions, The United Social Democrats and Union of Commonwealth Nations. More regions were subsequently annexed; The British Commonwealth and League of Governments were among its first notable possessions. By the end of 2013, the Trade Federation had amassed a total of over fifty regions under its administration.

Trade Federation-Bordurian Conflict

In the fall of 2013, the Trade Federation had a brief skirmish with another region, the Bordurian Empire. It began when the Trade Federation inadvertently acquired three Bordurian regions: British Overseas Territory, the Global Alliance, and Imperial Commonwealth League of Crowns. A compromise was made to settle the claims, and the Trade Federation returned the territories to the Bordurian Empire in exchange for The Trade Federation (Not to be confused with "Trade Federation"). Formal relations between the two regions began shortly after the exchange.

2014: Growth and Decline

January - May: Regional Management

The acquisitions of regions continued on throughout the beginning of 2014. The government was aware that there was a need to classify prominent regions in their own tier, such as the Galactic Republic, since they held special status in regards to their history. A system was put into place in which the Trade Federation's possessions were labelled as either a subsidiary, associate member, special associate member, or indirect regions. Regions were classified as one of the following:

  • Subsidiary - lowest tier, low name value, little to some history
  • Associate Member - medium tier, good name value, adequate history
  • Special Associate Member - highest tier, good name value, rich history
  • Indirect region - not directly affiliated with the Trade Federation albeit under its influence

List of World Assembly Delegates since 2014

The office of the WA delegate was originally the position of the region's viceroy. However, since there were no official elections, the office was held by those who had the endorsements of other nations or was personally appointed by the Chairman. There has been five delegates to date.

  1. Galactic Sovereign: July 7, 2014 - July 18, 2014
  2. Tropicville: July 21, 2014 - July 25, 2014
  3. Krumbia: October 13, 2014 - October 16,2014
  4. The Pillarmen: October 17, 2014
  5. Krumbia: October 17, 2014 - December 23, 2014

Member Regions

Within the Trade Federation, there are member regions. According to the Trade Federation Regional Classification Index, a member region is a region that falls under the Trade Federation's domain and supervision. All member regions , therefore, are incorporated territories of the Trade Federation and residents residing in these regions are citizens once they have applied for local and national citizenship. Member regions are partitioned into to 3 categories (subsidiary, associate member, and indirect possession), which are further divided into 2 subcategories (autonomous subsidiary and special associate member).

An autonomous subsidiary is a special type of subsidiary in which it is governed autonomously by natives while under supervision by the Trade Federation. As of date, Reckeuncela is the only region to be granted autonomous status after Melegropolis, a former WA delegate, requested the region to be part of the Trade Federation. The former founder of Reckeuncela, New Sunrise, has since cease to exist and the region was refounded by the Trade Federation. There were some debates and concerns on whether Reckeuncela should continue being an autonomous subsidiary or reclassify itself as a subsidiary, since the region is currently under direct federal control.

List of associate members

An associate member is a region of significant importance, that are either partners or dominions of the Trade Federation. The significance of the region is determined by the federal council.

These regions are yet to be included, usually at the founder's discretion. A common trait among these unclassified regions is the lack of presence from the Trade Federation. Currently, there are five regions of this type, although there are more that are not listed on the official TF Member Regions List. Among the successful acquisitions are the Brotherhood of Blood, a notable raiding region, and the NBE, a former fascist region.
