The Kingdom of Brasland was born in 1698. Its first sovereign was Frederick I, who founded the House of Balkronn, which has reigned ever since in the country.

Finances

Every year the State assigns a budget to cover the expenses of the members of the royal family that perform official duties.

The members of the royal family that receive an annual allowance to cover for both their official and private expenses are:

  • H.M. Queen Charlotte
  • H.R.H. Princess Sophia, Duchess of Lansborn
  • H.R.H. Princess Maria Olimpia
  • H.R.H. Princess Auguste

Other members of the royal family only receive public money to cover their official expenses, as they are able to fund their own private expenses. These members are:

  • T.M. the King and Queen
  • H.I. & R.H. Princess Maria Amelia
  • T.R.H. Prince Stephan and Princess Juliana


In 2013, the King and Queen announced that their private expenses would be covered by The Balkronn Trust (see below).


The Balkronn Trust

In 2012, King George IV ceded all his private assets to a foundation called The Balkronn Trust. These are:

  • 500,000 acres of agricultural holdings in continental Brasland, which includes woodland and real estate properties. They are exploited commercially or rented to farmers.
  • Grünenberg Castle: the King's private residence near Markund, which includes a large park and several farms, as well as the surrounding hills and forests.
  • Die Hütte: the King's private estate house in the island of Ostis, which includes 20,000 acres that are used for hunting, agriculture and forestry. They are exploited commercially or rented to farmers.
  • Kronburg Castle: the King's private estate house in the Braslander Alps, which includes 30,000 acres that are used for hunting as well as for agriculture and forestry. They are exploited commercially or rented to farmers.
  • A vast investment portfolio estimated in 1 billion US dollars.
  • A large collection of works of art (paintings, sculptures and furniture) and jewels (tiaras, necklaces, earrings, brooches, etc).

The Trust has the responsibility of managing the properties, which are always at the King's disposal. The earnings are either reinvested or used for charitable purposes. A portion of the earnings are given to the King, and he uses them for his's and the Queen's private expenses, as well as to provide for certain members of the royal family who do not have the means to support themselves in a way suitable to their rank.

The Balkronn Trust is managed by a board of eleven members, whose chairman is always the Sovereign. These are:
