Carian Civil War Factions

Following the 1954 Carian Revolution and the Carian Revolutionary War, the Despot of Caria abdicated and elections took place in all city states. While in the Constitutional Assembly there was great cooperation among the two majority parties the other parties did not want to cooperate with them in many cases, making the progress of a constitution slow. The three major parties had to compromise to gathe 3/4s majority and this resulted in all only adopting the parts of their policy that were common, leaving them and their individual City States unsatisfied.

In the Executive Assembly the large differences between the individual City State governments and even the diffeent views of the delegates of the same city state completely derailed efforts toward national unity and cooperation. Soon enough the issue became evident. After almost a month of work the Constitutional Assembly drafted a new constitution for Caria.

Caria now became the Carian Union, a Federation made up of 4 Federal Entities, the Pelasgian Republic, the Didyman League, the Panormine Exarchate and the Tivyran League. Each had its own government and armed forces and they were autonomous to the degree that they were almost completely indpendent. The central government of the Executive Assembly was weakened having almost no power and instead serving as a free trade union, common currency and meeting place for diplomatic discussion for the four states. The states themselves begun rebuilding their own damage from the Revolutionary War and rebuilding their militaries as well as strcucturing their news societies.

With al states wanting to enforce their views on all of Caria war was immeninent. But before looking at the events and trying to assign blame one must first look at the players themselves and the pawns they each had at their disposal.

The Didyman League is the largest and most powerful of the Federal Entities. It was originally composed of Sounio, Elena Island, Nikaia, Apolloneia and Demetrias and it later annexed Antikyra and Amarysia, while it lost most land in Demetrias except for the City of Demetrias itself and its immediate surroudning area as well as strategic land North of the City of Nikaia itself in North Nikaia. While orginally united with the Tivyran League and Prometheanist after the assasination and 'witch hunt' against the Social Democrats and any other political opponents the Vangurdists took over leading to a split with the still Prometheanist Tivyran League. It was at this tie that the aforementioned land in Demetrias and North Nikaia was lost and Amarysia and Antkyra were annexed. The Didyman League was originally a group of equally united City States but now it has become in effect and in unofficial name a Sounian Empire. All industries have been nationalized and people work there tirelessly. The authoritarian Sounian League has managed to rebuild all damage of the Revolutionary War and construct an Army and Air Force of massive size and a Navy even bigger than that of Pre-Revolution united Caria. It aims to put all of Caria under its iron heel to spread the Revolution. It is however forced to garisson all City States except the loyal Sounio and Elena Island with what essentially are Occupation Forces and Paramilitaries of the rulling party, which it calls "Brigades of the Working Class" and "Special Duties Regiments of the Organization for the Protection of the People's Struggle", to prevent local uprisings in the Cities of Sounio's new Hegeonic Empire.

The Pelasgian Republic is another Federal Entity. Formed by the Centrists and Liberals of Central and Central-Southern Caria it originally consisted of Nauplio, Pyrgos, Amarysia and Antikyra but the two last were later annexed by the Didyman League. This and the massive trade rivalry between the Didyman League and the Pelasgian Republic put the two at odds in a petty rivalry. The Panormine Exarchate might be the ideological nemesis of the Didyman League but the voice for war against Sounio and its Empire in Caria is the Pelasgian Republic, to the extent that they convinced the Panormines and Tivyrans into annexing parts of Demetrias from Didyman control. The Pelasgians have used their great trading ports and industrial prowess coupled with a balanced, modern military to rebuild what was destroyed in the Revolutionary War and strengthen themselves to prevent further Didyman expansion. It does aim at an ideological expansion but for now what it seeks is the unifications of Caria and its ideology's victory over the dead, rotting corpse of Sounio and the Didyman League.

The other strong Federal Entity apart from the Didyman League, the Panormine Exarchate was founded in Panormus thus earning it its name, since its official name "Caric Exarchate of Navarino, Naupactus and Elios Island" is seldom used outside its borders. Founded by the last three city states that voted against abolishing the Monarchy but instead wanted the current Despot to abdicate and be succeded by his son in a new Constitutional Monarchy. A strong state that managed to escape war and use its massive wealth to enlarge its already strong Army, Air Force and especially its Navy with its professional troops as well as many mercenaries, both Carian and foreign, it is the only state able to stand up to the Didyman League's agressive bullying approach in Carian Diplomacy and Politics. It has many economic activities generating enormous wealth and even offers the services of its world renowned both state and private mercenaries abroad, those these days it very well uses them itself. These mercenaries are renowned for never changing sides even when offered higher prices by the enemy and never breaking in battle as long as they are paid the agreed, usually very high, price. This has created the saying "No silver, no Panormine" from the name of the Carian region, long before the Exarchate was even founded. Though the majority of Panormine forces are full time professionals and not mercenaries many state and private mercenaries reinforce Panormine ranks. The other activiites of the state such as international banking, trade, jewelry and more reinforce this saying and the Exarchate's wealth. The Panormine Exarchate has annexed a large chunk of Didyman land in South Demetrias, after heeding Pelasgian demands to avenge the annexation of Amarysia and Antikyra by Sounio. This same Pelasgian demands to their friend and ally could very well lead Panormus, and all of Caria with it, into war.

The Tivyran League is the last Federal Entity of Caria. A confederacy of northern, neutral City States, it was formed after the Prometheanists of the Lague split from the Vanguardist Didyman Lague that had begun prosecuting them. It took its name from the region in whihc it is Tivyra, on the border with Tibura and in a small part Auraria. In fact it gets its name from Tibur's largest river, which is relaed to a major river passing right through the fertile and arable vineyards, lush orests and fields of the region and in Carian is called Tivyras River. The League was originally neutral ,altough shocked at the Didyman League which it previously supported, but after the Didymans attempted a coup to establish control over it it has become hostile, albeit non-combatant toward them. If suffered few battles during the Revolutionary War but its major industries are few, maily in Xerres, barely managing to stand up to the once Eiffellander ruled South's Industrial Might. For this reason its mainly land focused Armed Forces which are specialized in defenseive and offensive moves on both plains, forests and mountains never enter fights unless absolutely necessary and unless sure they can win. They have managed to hold on to a part of North Nikaia, right north of the City of Nikaia itself, much to the anger of the Didymans who have many times tried to take it and evict them from the region. They also cooperated with the Panorines and Pelasgians to take most of North Demetrias, containing the Sounians to the City of Demtetrias and its immediate area where there garrison is. While they always advocate for peace in the event of a war, despite their distrust of the Centrist and Right wing Pelasgians and Panormines, they would probably side with them against Sounio. After all this way they could liberate their brothers under Sounian hegemony and such a war would probably be started by Sounio or Pelasgia after Sounian provocations anyway.
