East Systems is a large aerospace and defense company headquartered in Grasmere. East Systems is the fourth largest company in Grasmere by market capitalization, and, along with Smyth forms a majority of Grasmere's large Defense industry.
History
The direct predecessor to East Systems was Grasmere Defense Systems, a massive company that supplied nearly all of the domestic weaponry procured by the Grasmeran Armed Forces. GDS purchased its largest remaining competitor, a small shipbuilding company called Bowden Shipyards, in 1975, and took over its operations selling destroyers to the Grasmeran Navy. Shortly after, in 1977, GDS was investigated by the Grasmeran Supreme Court for alleged violation of anti-trust law. GDS was ordered to split into two companies, Smyth and East Systems. Smyth received the majority of GDS's bread-and-butter firearm and vehicle manufacturing facilities, as well as it's ritzy downtown Berenson City offices and advanced manufacturing plants in the Berenson area. East Systems, on the other hand, received the entirety of the assets of the former Bowden Shipyards, as well as GDS's aerospace operations, which were in infancy compared to it's firearms manufacturing division. East Systems had to start from scratch building manufacturing infrastructure to compete with Smyth. After winning two successive Grasmeran Armed Forces handgun and shotgun procurement competitions in the 1980's, East was in a better position to properly compete with Smyth.
