The Grasmeran Armed Forces (GAF) are the combination of the three branches of the Grasmeran Military. It is led by the Governor of Grasmere, acting as Commander in Chief, followed by the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff, who is appointed by the Legislative Assembly of Grasmere.

History

The Grasmeran Armed Forces were formed on April 23rd, 1753, three days after the unification of the city-state of Berenson with the southern and eastern provinces to form the Republic of Grasmere. It initially was composed of the former Berenson Imperial Guard, as well as the forces from the various disorganized military and paramilitary forces belonging to the eastern provinces. Initially, this was known as the Grasmeran Unity Guard.

During the Grasmeran Civil War, the Grasmeran Unity Guard was reorganized once again as the Berenson Imperial Guard, despite representing the southern provinces as well as Berenson. However, some 30% of its forces joined the newly created Eastern Militia, and fought their former comrades for six years. After the war was over and reunification had begun, the majority of the initial deserters were charged with treason and executed, even though many of the units composing the Eastern Militia were integrated into the new armed forces, now taking its current name of the Grasmeran Armed Forces.

Organization and Structure

The Grasmeran Armed Forces are composed of three main branches:

The two branches of Grasmeran Intelligence, NI and II, are jointly administered by the Grasmeran Armed Forces and Grasmeran Intelligence, both falling under the jurisdiction of the Defense Department.

The Grasmeran Republican Guard, responsible for domestic defense and the protection of government officials, was previously a fourth branch of the Grasmeran armed forces. After a corruption scandal in 1978, it was reorganized as a department of the Eureka Police Department, and its domestic defense functions were absorbed by the remaining three branches.
