Smyth, formally Smyth Industries and stylized as SMYTH is a large arms manufacturer and conglomerate from Grasmere. Smyth is the largest company in Grasmere by market capitalization, and is one of the two supermajor defense contractors making up Grasmere's large Defense industry.
History
The predecessor to Smyth was Grasmere Defense Systems (GDS), started by firearms pioneer Michael Howard as Howard Firearms in 1902. In 1977, the Grasmeran Supreme court launched an investigation into the mammoth GDS for alleged vioaltion of anti-trust legislation. At the time, GDS supplied the Grasmeran Armed Forces with over 95% of their domestically sourced equipment The action was successful, and, in 1978, the supreme court ordered GDS to divest into two companies; Smyth, named for weapon designer and new CEO Brad Smyth, and East Systems. Smyth would be headquartered in the former GDS building in Berenson City, while East would be located in Allendale. Initially, Smyth was awarded the majority of GDS's former small arms and vehicle manufacturing operations, while East was to focus on aerospace. However, the two companies quickly began to develop the products given to the other in order to better compete for government contracts.
