Erich von Schmidt (1938-1976) was a Braslander aristocrat. He was the son of Dag von Schmidt.

He was a wild child, extremely active and charming, but also lacking in focus. He attended Rottendorf College and later went to the University of Markund to study Economics. However, he dropped out after less than two years and started a frenetic lifestyle of women, alcohol and drugs. His parents forced him to start a treatment at a Swiss clinic, and he returned in 1961.

In 1962 he married Duchess Gloria von Kerlich, with whom he had a son, Dag, born in 1963. The family thought that Erich would finally settle down, but they were wrong. He was unfaithful to Gloria and left her in 1965. He went to live to Europe with his mistress, and then began an affaire with a French actress, Charlotte Donet, whom he married in 1967. They separated after less than a year and divorced in 1969.

Although his father had refused to finance his lifestyle, Erich had inherited the bulk of her aunt Flora's fortune, as he was her favourite nephew. This allowed him to live independently.

In 1973 he met Madeleine von Ledoux, a Braslander painter who lived in Paris. She was beautiful and responsible, and helped Erich to settle down. His marriage to his first wife was annulled in 1974 (after a long process), and Erich wanted to marry Madeleine. She became pregnant and they married in 1975. Erich's parents were happy, as he seemed more mature and willing to work for the Schmidt Group. Sadly, Erich died some months later in a car crash in the Swiss Alps. Shortly afterwards Madeleine gave birth to a son, Erich (born 1976).
