Proper Name: The Johnified States of America

Status

Civil Rights: Some
Economy: Powerhouse
Political Freedoms: Outlawed

The Johnified States of [Johnified] America is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 7.281 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

The enormous, corrupt, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Commerce. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 20%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Arms Manufacturing.

A crusade against barbaric religious practices has begun, the hawk is protected from hunting and slowly coming back from the brink of extinction, a National Academy regulates grammar and usage, and shanty towns are forming in the suburbs of major cities. Crime is moderate. Johnified America's national animal is the hawk and its currency is the shell casing.

Brief History

Founded July 2003 by the great "John", the Johnified States of America has been a rare participant in international affairs, only coming into the international spotlight when absolutely required. After the JSA Civil war in which The Confederacy of Johnified States, which was about to be defeated, detonated a large number of tactical nuclear weapons within their own territory, destroyed thousands of troops and vehicles, The Johnified States of America signed a peace treaty granting the Confederacy it's independence. Since the war The JSA has rebuilt and is more powerful than ever, although a colony, Johnified Antarctica, became lost in the winter of 2005 to severe weather, to the pleasant surprise of President John, the Confederacy of Johnified States collapsed economically and was easily absorbed into Johnified America more than making up for the disastrous loss of the small 10 acre colony and 4,000 colonists at the South Pole. In 2006, in order to solidify funding through The Phoenix Milita's military assistance program, the flag of Johnified America was changed to the former flag of Johnified States, which was a Phoenix Protectorate before it was dissolved. This only lasted a few months however, and the original JSA flag -- which was made by President John himself when the nation was first founded-- returned to represent the civil authority and national governemt. The Phoenix flag remains a symbol of the military though Phoenix Milita funding was cut by more than 70%.
Member of the Mutual Regional Defense Pact (JSA Pact)

Military

The military, its personnel and its equipment, are the pride of the JSA. Many children are raised from birth knowing that they will be soldiers once they mature. Although throughout the years of the Civil War and before, the JSA used surplus and upgraded US Military equipment such as the M-1A3 Tank, A-10 attack aircraft, M113 APC, much of which was bought from Tyrador, The JSA now uses the latest high-tech military hardware such as the classifed Talon Tank which is now its main battle tank and the Phoenix II which is the primary Multi-Role Fighter. The Navy uses a mix of upgraded US Navy-type ships and regionaly bought higher-end ships.
While the JSA Infantry used the AR-22(a .450 caliber battle rifle built for JSA forces under contract from Phoenix Dynamix when the JSA was just starting out ) for many years, transition to a new 6.66mm assault rifle has begun. Called simply the "JSA Assault Rifle" it is a surprisingly simple design and although more than one variant exists, the primary rifle usually has an attached sling and bayonet as the only accessories, although the top of the integral iron sight contains a sheathed rail interface system compatible with the latest optics and versions with underbarrel weapons have been seen. The weapons seem to be shaped to perfectly interface with the JSA ballistic combat facemask at multiple angles, a feature the AR-22's lack. The 6.66mm round is also lighter and thus more can be carried, and the weapon itself is lighter, reducing fatigue. The JSA ballistic combat facemask has undergone a recent evolution, allowing for easier use of night vision goggles and NBC gear, and taking on what the designers call a "meaner" look, alhtough there are still literally millions of the original and JSA style mask and hundreds of the transition style still in service. Kevlar threaded cotton BDU's have become standard issue, while these uniforms can't stop most rifle rounds, they can slow most pistol calibers enough to prevent a deep penetrating, crippling wound and are quite effective at defeating knife slashes and medium speed shrapnel and every day wear and tear. Although the uniforms have breathable "ports" throughout, they qualify as a Level 3 NBC suit when sealed. "Dragon Skin" Body Armor worn over the BDU can offer chest, abdomen, shoulder, back and groin protection from up to 7.62x51mm Full Metal Jacketed rounds and high speed shrapnel and also has the option for additional rigid ceramic plate insertion for even more protection. Load bearing equipment can easily fit over the Dragon Skin vest. Boots, shin guards, knee and elbow pads are armored as well. The boots offer protection from some types of land mines, turning would would have to be a permanent amputation into a compound fracture at worst. While the boots are heavier than leather (and much more expensive due to liberal use of spectra fiber), they are still flexible and breathable enough to be comfortable and ceramic plates can be removed. The shin guards, knee and elbow pads can stop a 6.66mm round. To completely dress a JSA Infantryman, without taking into consideration weapons or training, costs well over $15,000 and as such only a fraction of the soldiers that would be considered Infantry in the JSA are actually classified and equipped as such.
