The Planitan Union Explained*

The Planitan Union is a supranational union consisting of thirteen member states on the eastern coast of the Atlantis Continent. It is one of the most environmentally beautiful "nations" in the World Alliance. Most of the population lives on the coastal regions especially in the nations of, Liberia, Monterrey, and North Cape. The nation has a socialist ideology and it views other, capitalistic countries as immoral and corrupt. The main political parties center on isolationism and internationalism. The government itself is extremely omnipresent and it funds the demands of Education, the Environment and Social Welfare. The Official Name of the Union is The Federated Nations of Monterrey, North Cape, Phoenix, Liberia, Boulder, Carinos, Korma, North Keppel, South Keppel, Oceanside, South Coast, and the Great Lake of the International Planitan Union.
Organization of the Planitan Union
Contrary to popular belief, Planita is not one country, but a country of countries united under a economic, military, and political union. The official members of the Planitan Union are in decreasing order of population: Monterrey, North Cape, Phoenix, Liberia, Boulder, Carinos, Korma, North Keppel, South Keppel, Oceanside, South Coast, and the Great Lake. How the Planitan Union is run is hideously complicated and a story for another time, but in this chapter we will focus on the four major "zones" in the Union: the Torch Area, the Union Economic Area(UEA), the Note Zone, and the Union Political Area (UPA). For a country that that keeps her borders extremely clean and / or well-patrolled,*hint*Marq*hint* the Torch Area is a bit mind-blowing because it's an agreement between countries to take a 'IDC' approach to borders. You can walk through certain countrie's borders without border checks of any kind. The members of the Torch area are: North Cape, Liberia, North Keppel, Boulder, Korma, Carinos,and Monterrey. By the way, did you notice that there are a few Union members missing in the Torch Area especially Phoenix? If you go to those nations, you have to go through border control as well. Don't like it? Well...get used to it. The Planitan Union loves complicated relationships with its extremely picky members; especially in the case of the Planitan Economic Area (PEA) and the Note Zone.
The Note Zone (NZ), is an economic and monetary union where member nations share a common currency called the Planitan Note as their common currency and sole legal tender. The current members are Phoenix, Carinos, North Keppel, South Keppel, and the Great Lake. The Planitan Note can be used in any of the Note Zone members. You might think that the other members that are missing from the NZ roster just have their own unique currency, but no. There is the Union Economic Area. That area, which contains the rest of the Union, has no currency of what we know of, instead they use a kind of merit system. Also members of the UEA have free access to the Planitan Union owned corporations like Tri-E and Chrome Cyberworks. Weirdly Note Zone members also have free access despite not being part of the UEA so the UEA encompasses the NZ with a strange semi-permeable membrane.
Finally there is the Union Political Area, unofficially called the United Nations, which contains Liberia, Monterrey, Phoenix,and North Cape. This is the core of the Planitan Union; this is where they make the laws which govern the entire Union as a whole. So.. why are there only 4 members. Long story short, to join the UN you must undergo major reforms for your country plus you have to adopt a very large amount of regulations. However once you get in it, you have access to the political arena of the Union.
