Starting from where we are, we go 33,600 turbo miles due up. Then west in an astro-arc deviation to here, then following the great circle seven radiolubes south by down-east. By astro-astrobal to here, here, and here, then by space navigo-compass to here, here, and then to here, and here. By thirteen-point strato-cumulus bearing four million light-years, and thus to our destination.

Statistical trends
The Pleiades is a small region, sparsely populated by only 9 nations.
In The Pleiades, denizens enjoy their civil rights, although not too much, or too freely. Nations in the region are considered developing democracies, with some political freedoms afforded to denizens. Families in the region are so obsessed with the economy that the discussion of laffer curves and supply-side reforms over dinner is a regular occurrence in member nations. Inhabitants rarely are visited by the tax collector, and the region boasts a paltry median tax rate of 2%. The region is a beacon of capitalism, with the public sector not existing in any meaningful way in constituent economies. Commerce is a major priority of national governments within the region, most of whom are trading nations, as is evidenced by the fact that commerce budgets account for an average of 17% of public expenditure in the region.
Education is a priority for governments throughout The Pleiades, with ample funding being provided and teachers enjoying a great deal of support. Criminality is rife within the region, with law enforcement struggling to cope. Governments allocate a meagre 2%, on average, of their budgets to law and order. Defense is an overarching priority for governments within the region. One might suggest they are compensating for something. Public transport is an afterthought, with only 1% of total government budgets in the region being devoted to it.
Nobody really knows about the state of administration in The Pleiades. Observers asked for information, but found nobody was available to take calls. Some government provision is made for healthcare, but at an average of only 1% the provision for healthcare in the region is paltry. Welfare in the region is minimal, with only a small amount of expenditure being devoted to spending on social security. Governments in the region are avowedly atheist - no public funds are allocated to spirituality.
Social inequality is a major problem within The Pleiades, although some effort has been made to correct the problem. The environments of the nations in the region are almost universally appalling.
Governance
A triumvirate known as the Directorate, consisting of Yelda, Nerdocrombesia and Kungpaomao, rules the Pleiades. Nerdorombesia is also an accomplished travel agent, but specializes only in trips to The Rejected Realms. Kungpaomao, which has also spent much time in Antarctic Oasis, was for some years first in the World in Income Inequality. Yelda is a menace that has been terrorizing the World Assembly for many years, under many different guises, most notably Iron Felix -- who incidentally is also the famed nemesis of another notorious WA terrorist. Because of the region's small and informal nature, and owing to Yelda's close ties with several Antarctic nations, The Pleiades and Antarctic Oasis share an unusually interconnected functional and diplomatic relationship.
