The Laiatanese Patriotic Front (LPF) (Mahigian: Mahigan Patriotik Front (MPF)) was a terrorist organization involved in the Red Laiatan conflict from 1955 to 1966. The organization sought to remove the democratically elected government of Laiatan and dismantle the capitalist economic system in place. It was the largest of the two communist guerrilla groups active during the Red conflict. The LPF agreed to a ceasefire in 1966 with the federal government, and disarmed over two years. In 1968, it combined with the New Laiatan Federation (NLF) to form a legal political party.
The LPF employed guerrilla tactics against the Laiatanese Armed Forces and local police forces. Car bombings and hit-and-run attacks were used extensively against government and military targets. Attacks by the LPF resulted in the deaths of roughly 4,200 civilians, while Laiatanese military and police killed an estimated 7,500 guerrillas.

History
An economic downturn in the mid 1940s led to growing distrust in Laiatan's capitalist system and democratic government. During this time most individuals started voting for politicians with more socialist and liberal views, in stark contrast with the predominately conservative government put into power years before. While the simple election of new politicians were enough for most, a few began speaking out against the government while another few began taking up arms.
The LPF was formed March 19, 1953 by Slava Yarmolnik, a history professor at Sevrod University. Twelve students joined him from the University, and helped grow the ranks. By 1954, over 200 students had joined the LPF. 1955 saw the LPF reach 2,000 members and officially enter the Red conflict with the NLF. It was also designated as a terrorist organization in 1955 after a car bombing that killed 11 people in Sevrod.
The LPF continued its violent assault against the Laiatanese government, using car bombs and hit-and-run attacks to fight against the military and police forces. The federal government struck back harder, targeting LPF commanders through raids and airstrikes. When possible, commanders were taken alive and later criminally prosecuted - though many others were killed in skirmishes with the military. Those criminally prosecuted were more often than not executed by the state.
Yarmolnik was killed in a firefight with the Spezialzekeinheit (SZE), a counter-terrorism special operations unit formed in response to the Red conflict, on October 9, 1959. January 9, 1961, Vladimir Chebotaryov and Anastasia Ukhov were killed by SZE troops in a raid on a regional headquarters near Saphirgorod. After the deaths of Chebotaryov and Ukhov, attacks by the LPF grew more intense with the rise of Nikita Nikishin until his capture with lieutenant Katherine Galdin on April 22, 1964. The duo were executed after a trial on January 9, 1965. After the executions, violence immediately dropped as Alexei Sayansky took power and began peace talks with the federal government.
