The chosen flag

The 1st Culture Competitions was the first regional design event held in The Leftist Assembly, hosted by Secretary Llorens from 3 August to 14 September 2017. The event was held to select a new motto, anthem and flag for the region.

Timeline

The event followed the following timeline from the first suggestion of the idea to the conclusion of the flag contest vote:

  • 3 August: Idea suggested by Llorens
  • 6 August: Submission entry opened
  • 2-6 September: Motto contest vote
  • 6-10 September: Anthem contest vote
  • 10-14 September: Flag contest vote

Voting

To ensure that unpopular submissions weren't selected due to the existing ones being knocked out in early rounds of voting when there are multiple choices, each submission was first compared head-to-head with the existing form of that element. If no submission received more votes than the original, the element would not change. If one submission received more votes than the original, it would win the contest. If multiple submissions received more votes than the original, all ranked votes would then be adjusted to suit the remaining submissions and the winning submission from the alternative vote procedure would win the contest.
