The People's Republic of Niktobr, commonly referred to as Niktobr is a federal republic consisting of 27 states and 2 protectorates. It is the second largest nation on the continent of Esteron and is bordered by the Maxtopian Republic to the south-east and various smaller kingdoms and states to the south-west. It is the largest Capitoleon speaking country in Intris.
Northern Esteron was inhabited by various nordic and slavic tribes, with its coast constantly being raided by pirates and vikings. Clashes with the southern tribes led to the rise of the Kingdom of Niktobr. It was eventually succeeded by the Niktobrian Empire which then grew to cover all of Esteron. Its fall in the Niktobrian Civil War led to the creation of the People's Republic in 1944.
The nation has been ruled by the governing Communist Party of Niktobr since 2009 NC. Under Communist rule, the country has seen the closure of Niktobr's borders to immigrants as well as controversial legislation that oversaw the denial of welfare to recipients. Fierce opposition and decline of the Party's powerbase has led to reversal of the Party's legislation.
History
Independance from the Niktobrian Empire
The modern day Niktobr was founded as the Niktobrian People's Insurgency, an armed rebel group fighting for independance from the Niktobrian Empire. In 1932 the N.P.I established the first iteration of the People's Republic in the territories it held. The fall of Capitolstadt in the Winter of 1943 and the subsequent murder of the Royal Family at the hands of the N.P.I oversaw the final dissolution of the Empire. On 28 September 1944 an Imperial military alliance made up of military leaders and generals surrendered to the N.P.I on behalf of the Niktobrian Empire. The 12 Imperial districts of Niktobria were divided into 27 states. On August 2 the People's Republic of Niktobr was proclaimed a sovereign state and subsequently became a member of the World Assembly.
