The Gouddivisie (/ˈɣoːðəˌviːzi/; Gold Division) is the highest division of the Soltsteedish football league system, contested annually by twelve teams.
The league is contested in an apertura-clausura format (Soltsteedish: “depart-retour”; literally departure-return), with each half of the season crowning a national champion; the Depart and Retour are each a double round-robin, with each team playing every other team in the league twice at home and twice away during the course of a full season. The bottom team on the aggregate table is relegated and replaced by the winner of the Silver Division play-offs. As a rule, Gouddivisie champions qualify for the UICA Champions’ Cup, depending on the number of places allocated to Soltsteed by the coefficient ranking, and the next-highest finishers qualify for the Globe Cup.

History
…
… Both leagues agreed to continue the traditional split season, but failed to agree on a method to crown a single season champion, with the two leagues opting to compromise by crowning the winners of both tournaments national champions instead.
Format
The Mästerheid is contested under an apertura-clausura format. Unlike most leagues using the format, the Depart and Retour are self-contained championships—the winners of each section are full national champions and two champions are crowned each season. No play-offs are contested in the Gold Division for any purpose: access to international competitions (outside of priority for each section’s winners) and relegation to the Silver Division are decided on the basis of aggregate records.
Competition
During the course of a season, each club plays every other four times, twice at their home stadium and twice at that of their opponents’. In the first half of the season, called the Depart, each team plays twice against each league opponent, for a total of 22 games; in the second half of the season, called the Retour, teams play in exactly the same order as the first half of the season. The Depart and Retour function as independent tournaments for the purpose of crowning champions, with the team with the most points at the end of the tournament winning the Soltsteedish football championship; points from the Depart are not carried over to the Retour.
Teams are ranked by a points system, with teams earning three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss. If tied on points, games won, goal difference and goals scored operate as primary tiebreakers; if still equal, teams are deemed to occupy the same position. If an absolute tie must be broken to determine the championship, relegation or qualification to international competitions, kicks from the penalty mark are taken at a neutral venue as a tiebreaker.
Each season, the worst-performing team on aggregate is relegated to the Silver Division and are replaced by the winners of the Silver Division play-offs, which are contested by the Depart and Retour champions and the highest-placing team on the division’s aggregate table.
International qualification
Each season’s champions and runners-up enter UICA competitions, with the two champions receiving access priority over the all other clubs. Clubs entering UICA competitions are seeded by their record on the aggregate table; for UICA purposes, such as determining qualification path or group stage seeding in the Champions’ Cup, the champions with the better aggregate record are considered sole Soltsteedish champions and the champions with the inferior record enter in the non-champions path or Globe Cup as appropriate.
