The Laiatanese Crisis (Laiatanese: Лаиатанский Кризис, tr. Laiatanskiy Krizis) began with the assassination of Yuri Kamenev on December 5, 1887 when human elements of the Laiatanese Imperial Military shot and killed Emperor Yuri Kamenev in an attempt to overthrow the government. Immediately following the assassination Operation Aprel was launched by Aleksy Zukov, the prime minister at the time. The operation saw the imperial military seize essential government offices and media outlets, helping keep the country together as it fought against the human insurrection. The fighting forced the rebels to the Kazakavo Islands, which was taken by rebel troops soon after the assassination. Skirmishes continued for several months across the country between imperial and rebel forces until all rebels were purged from mainland Laiatan, and imperial troops were pulled from the Islands. The Crisis was declared officially over when the Laiatanese Constitution came into effect April 17, 1888, and Aleksy Zukov was elected as the first president of the newly formed Laiatanese Federation October 15, 1888.
