Introduction

The Federal People's Republic of Margora or simply Margora is a Sovereign State in the South-Central part of the NationStates world. Margora is a landlocked country with a more rugged and mountainous than flat terrain. It is bordered by Tuvavilu to the north, Louia to the north-east, east, south-east, south, south-west, west, and north-west. It's capital and largest city is Salem City.

Margora's recorded history spans over 1,000 years, encompassing a variety of cultures and empires. Although geographically isolated by its highly rugged and mountainous terrain, which has helped preserve its ancient culture, Margora has been at the crossroads of several great civilizations. Though long inhabited by a succession of independent tribes and clans, Margora has periodically fallen under foreign domination and attained sovereignty as a nation-state only after the breakup of the Ikkman Empire in 2010, and the Tuvavilu war from 2011-2017.

Since independence, Margora has officially been a Federal Republic, although it continues to endure transitional governments and political conflict. Margora is a member of the World Assembly and the Security Council.

Ethnic Tuvavs make up the majority of the country's 1.5 billion people, followed by significant minorities of Louians and Ikkmen. The majority of the population are Catholic. In addition to its Tuvav origins, Margoran culture bears elements of ancient Tuvav culture in rural parts of the country.

Etymology

Margora is believed to have been derived from the spanish word "Margosa" meaning "marly and loamy", or rich in minerals and composite materials. In ancient Margora, it was very popular to have mined for Margora's rich and mineral-filled soil. Many historians believed that since many of the ancient civilizations did this, they decided to recognize the amazing resources Margora offered, including the soil and land, hence the word "Margosa" or now "Margora".

History

Antiquity

The Manargo Empire

In early 417 A.D., ancient Margoran settlers were in a battle with ancient Tuvavs for sovereign land. Ancient Margora prevailed and named their newly won land the "Manargo Empire" which to this day, the word "Manargo" remains unknown. The Parliament-like council apointed King Tyler I as the leader of the colony, and appointed 5 "cabinet" members, all of which presided over war situations. The Manargo became known as one of the largest empires in the middle east, spanning nearly 10,000 miles, doubling the size previously owned, which was just a tribal area ran by ancient settlers.

King Tyler I died c. 453 A.D. leaving the Manargo Empire unattended. Half of the Empire's 67,500 "citizens" were unaware of the death of King Tyler. Fortunately, the council reformed and appointed King Tyler II, the son of Tyler I. Tyler II repealed all of the council's newly appointed war ministers, which angered the council, and most of the people living within the governmental area of the Empire. Many people also agreed with the idea because it made the Empire look weak with 5 war ministers. This sparked the Manargo Civil War, which lasted from 454 A.D. until the death of King Tyler II in 492 A.D.

The Empire then settled conflict and the newly appointed council elected a new queen, which was the heiress apparent upon Prince Tyler who was born well after Queen Barbosa I. Barbosa was the granddaughter of Tyler I, and the daughter of Tyler II. She ruled up until the collapse of the empire in 563 A.D.

From the late 570s to the early 2000s, the land was owned by Tuvavilu once again, who was absent for 153 years. Margora then fought back again in 2011, which of course, is known as the Tuvavilu War, caused by land dispute upon the collapse of the Ikkman Empire Government.

Tuvavilu President Cypress Young 1903-1934

In 1902, Cypress Young was elected President of Tuvavilu, a rather strong country located to the north of the Margoran Territory, which was owned by the officially formed nation of Tuvavilu since 1876 (non-formed nation of Tuvavilu since 470 A.D.) The Young Regime reigned until 1934, and Margora was a vital part in the regime.

Once taking office 1903, Young immediately announced annexation of the Margoran Territory, in case of Louian intervention, which was possible, since they too wanted the territory for their own good. Young appointed an administrative governor Jerry Parthun to the territory and told him to report "any unjust actions by the people back to me". The people of the territory were furious with the appoitment of a governor, since that was unnecessary before the new regime took power.

Famine

Due to lack of attention by the Young regime, an extreme famine took place, lasting from 1904-1907. This became known as the Early 19th Century Margoran Famine. Hundreds of thousands of people died, mostly of starvation, some of malnutrition. Young was slightly criticized by this in his country, and the Administrative Governor was fired, even though it was Young's fault at large. Unfortunately, the economy of Tuvavilu was struggling as well, meaning it would take a lot of work for the territory to climb out of oppression.

Fight for Independence

In 2010, the Ikkman Empire Government endured a total collapse, and once forces from Tuvavilu and Louia went to claim the land, they both could not agree on a reasonable proportion of land to own. This prompted Louia to storm across the border into Tuvavilu, killing all border guards and agents. This became known as the Louia/Tuvavilu Border Skirmish, which in turn, started the Tuvavilu War between Margora Territory, Louia, and Margora.

Margora joined Tuvavilu to fight for the left over land from Ikkma, and to fight for their independence. Dakka Mathias, a military general at the time, led the Margoran Territory to a victory, and General LeeAnn Thomas led the Louian Armed Forces to a victory as well. All three countries suffered extensive damage, and it was considered to be the deadliest war in the middle-east's history. On February 13, 2017, both countries officially announced victory, and Tuvavilu accepted, but to this day have fiercely increased border security and patrolling agents.

Politics

Margora, as in the constitution, defines the government as a Federal Republic. The term Federal People's Republic is used to acknowledge former existence as a national figure. The constitution also suggests a use of a national senate, which is the Unicameral form of legislature in Margora. The Judicial Branch comprises of a Supreme Court and provincial courts. The Supreme Court consists of five justices, one chief justice, and one associate justice.

There have been two elections held in the country since its independence declaration. One of which were actually official. On February 20, 2017, the first Margoran election took place, but only to immediately put someone in charge of the nation. There was a voter turnout of a mere 7%, and General Dakka Mathias won with nearly 98% of the vote over opposition Ulaard Hallar (Liberal Democrat Party). The second election took place on July 20, 2017. Mathias won again, but this time with just 52% of the vote. Ulaard Hallar was heavily favored to win, leading national polls by 35% at one time, but ended up falling short of then incumbent Mathias.
