The Republic of Setzna, which is better known as Setzna, is a nation on the continent of Gondwana. It shares it's northern border with Stratarin. The country has many islands off the coast which are the homes to some of the countries' tourist hot spots. Setzna is semi-technologically advanced with research being done around the clock. Majority of the nation experiences tropical weather with the occasional snow every winter in the Northern part of the nation.

History

1322-1745, The Rise of the Setznan Empire

From 1322-1672, Setzna was a bunch of Sencradic tribes. The Sencradic people were nomads and had gotten rid of the title in 1322 when they settled down and claimed their territory in the land where Setzna is now. A great power, the Ishi Empire had existed on the lands of the north for years before the time when the Sencradic people had settled down. Many tribes would've been absorbed into the empire although many of the southern and western tribes remained untouched. During the year 1606, the Kingdom of Hohenheim was formed by Sencradic tribes in the area around what would be today's New Alexandria. In the north, the old Ishi Empire soon gave away to a more powerful ruler and became the Shinagawa Shogunate, the Emperor had become a mere figurehead with ceremonial powers which many who supported the Imperial throne were left irked by this. During this time, the western tribes and the Shinagawa Shogunate had formed a distinct rivalry with the Kingdom of Hohenheim and had engaged in minor skirmishes and clashes occasionally in neutral territory or unclaimed land. In 1672, ten tribes of the west banded together and formed the Confederation of Heinzberg. The confederation would work hard to create a long lasting relationship with the Shinagawa Shogunate and form an strong bond between the two factions. In 1704, the ten "states" of the Confederation merged to become the Kingdom of Greater Heinzberg which was ruled by the house of the same name. Heinzberg and Hohenheim continued their rivalry and soon, tensions escalated into war. The two nations went to war with each other multiple times and in 1712 after another war, the Kingdom of Heinzberg conquered much of the unclaimed and neutral land as well as parts of the Kingdom of Hohenheim. In 1722, the House of Heinzberg mysteriously disappeared seemingly overnight with a scroll being left in the King's chambers that detailed the handover of the state to his son-in-law Shinagawa Isoroku of the Shinagawa Shogunate. Over the next few years, the Kingdom of Heinzberg was slowly incorporated into the Shinagawa Shogunate through politics and military occupation to 'defend' the Kingdom which was supported by most of its people as they saw the Shinagawa in a positive light. In 1730 with the death of his elder brothers in an expedition to the east, Isoroku became the successor to his father and took over leadership as Shogun in 1734. Within the years of 1734-1740, the Emperor was discreetly making allies and sending his subordinates to inspire the people about times past and the glory of what a country lead by the true ruler, the Emperor, would be. Shinagawa Isoroku would treat his people well until his death at the hands of an Imperial Patriot in 1740, plunging the nation into a bloody civil war as clans that were swayed to the Emperor's side took up arms against the Shogunate and joined forces with Imperial troops. Allies turned into enemies and battlefields became common across the land. The civil war would end in 1745 with the Emperor's son, the Crown Prince Hiro claiming victory for the Imperial forces and thus the Setznan Empire was born.

1745-1890, The Golden Age

In the years 1745-1853, Setzna went through an Industrial Revolution and advanced quickly into the Industrial Era and the result of this was the M1888 bolt action rifle which replaced the old Droy Needle Gun and the M1871, adopted by the Setznan Empire in 1845 with the latter being adopted in 1871. At the time, the Droy Needle Gun was one of a kind and the only breech loading rifle using a bolt-action to open and close the chamber. In the year 1850, The Kingdom of Hohenheim turned into the Imperial Empire of Ancrad and the House of Hohenheim was replaced with the House of Ancrad. The Empire of Setzna and the Imperial Empire of Ancrad went to war again for the sixth time in 1889. At this point in time, the Setznan Military used a new form of irregular troops. They were named Alpenjagers and they specialized in rough terrain and mountainous warfare, giving the Setznan Armies a major advantage over Ancrad's troops which were not used to fighting irregulars in rough terrain. The Alpenjager used hit and run tactics and guerrilla warfare to beat their enemies in the hills of southern Setzna. With the new M1888 bolt action rifles and Setzna's new modernized irregular infantry tactics, the Ancradian troops did not stand a chance and suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Setzna for the fifth time in a row.

1933-1944, The Fall of the Empire

The year 1933 was one of the major turning points in Setznan history. In the east, a new leader had arisen in Ancrad as the new Grand Chancellor. This young man had many ideals and turned Ancrad into a threat that caused even the most elite politicians to worry. These worries came true when in the year 1939, Ancrad launched a full on invasion of Southern Setzna. They unleashed their own Alpenjagers against the Setznan troops and revealed a new devastating tactic that would help decide the fate of the war, Blitzkreig. Using this new tactic, Ancradian troops blazed through the Setznan countryside and defenses with ease, reaching the capital in a matter of months. At the capital though, the strongest defense was quickly turned into a better offense. With the use of strategy and tactics, the Setznan troops successfully pushed Ancradian troops back to the border where the two would slug it out for three more years. In 1943, Ancrad quickly got the upper hand once again and started pushing the Setznan army back towards the capital. Every few months, the Ancradian army got closer and closer and with repeated loses of their battles, the Setznan army had low morale. On June 24th, 1944, the Setznan Army finally cracked. Setzna faced an unconditional defeat and Arcadia fell to Ancradian forces. After suffering defeat for years upon years, the House of Ancrad (Hohenheim) finally won against their enemy to the north.

1945-1972, Auroran Conflict & Rebellion

For the next 27 years Ancrad would rule over the territory and participate in the Auroran Great War. During 1954, a large rebel group made up of former soldiers of the Setznan Army and civilians who were against Ancradian rule rose up, their flames of liberation quickly spreading through the countryside and catching the Ancradian government off guard. All was well until the rebel front attempted to capture the capital city in a deadly 9 hour siege, resulting in the ultimate defeat of the rebellion as Imperial troops managed to push them back out of the capital and run them down in the outskirts. Rebel leaders and members were killed in public as examples for others or imprisoned years on end. With the defeat of the Old Front, differing ideals and distrust amongst the remnants would cause the breakup of what used to be a united front into tinier factions. In 1972 however, a rebellion lead by Shima Nao successfully overthrew the Ancradian throne and the royal family was sentenced to exile in the islands off the coast. There were already smaller rebel contingencies scattered around the nation but they only carried out small-medium sized attacks, eventually these contingencies merged together under Nao and marched on the capital in secret. Along the way military leaders who opposed the ideals of the throne joined the rebellion and Ancradian troops who deserted with their officers exchanged their steel helmets for the brown slouch hat of the rebellion. Now that the entirety of Setzna and Ancrad was under his control, Nao immediately started implementing democratic reforms which lead the old Empire into an era of democracy. He also The newly founded Republic of Setzna then rejoined the war in Aurora on the side of the Allies, fighting for two more long years. After the Auroran Great War ended, Shima Nao went on to reform the country even more which helped shape current day Setzna.

1978-Present, The Rise of a Republic

In 1978, Nao handed the reigns of presidency over to William S. Schultz. In the four years of his presidency, he established a health care program and promoted the free market and privately owned businesses. Schultz also brought economic reforms that would increase the Setznan GDP greatly. It was during this time when he and Nao also finished drafting the constitution and put it into use. He was also the one who established the Four Year Rule, which limited the term of each president after him to four years until he or she had to take part in presidential elections for re-election. This system was based off of many other democratic systems on Urth. During his time as president he bumped the Republic from a 2nd world stature to a 1st world state and enacted bills that propelled the Republic into a new Golden Age which lasted for a few years. In his fourth and last year, he built up the Setznan Self Defense Force and left office with most of his policies enacted and no regrets.

Government

The Republic of Setzna has three main branches of government that govern the nation.

• Executive Branch. Consists of the Presidential Office and cabinet. Makes the final decision on whether to veto or pass laws made by the Legislative Branch.
• Legislative Branch. Consists of the House of Representatives and Senate. Creates and passes laws (at this stage, bills) for the Senate to vote on.
• Judicial Branch. Consists of the Supreme Court, Federal Court and Provincial Courts. Handles felonies and all law related matters.

Military

Setznan Self Defense Force

The main military force of the Republic of Setzna is the Setznan Self Defense Force, which was formed after the first Civil War. The SSDF was preceded by the Republic Defense Front, which was the leading resistance contingent during the 1st Civil War. Many notable people served in the SSDF including William Verlhan, who is the current president. The military is respected by most citizens in Setzna and has been active in aiding Setznan expansion.

Technology

The Republic of Setzna has a slight advantage over it's neighbors due to having semi-advanced tech. Setzna focuses mainly on a slight balance of civilian and military research, with a lot of funding being put into military research. The SSDFs military technology advantage allows them to have the edge over some larger opponents. But civilian research is slowly getting bigger, pushing Setzna further into the future. Currently, scientists are working with and learning from their Emberitian counterparts overseas to further improve technological development. Setzna also has put lots of research into clean energy, with most factories in major industrial zones running on green tech. Experimental holographic displays have also been appearing in big cities such as Risa and Arcadia, creating a mix of big LCD screens in the side of buildings and displays projected in the air.
