The Laiatanese presidential election of 2016 was the 32nd quadrennial Laiatanese presidential election, held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. The Social Democratic Union ticket of Councilwoman Yuliya Surkova and Deputy Vladimir Burmakin defeated four other tickets from other parties. Surkova took office as the 20th President, and Burmakin as the 22nd Vice President, on January 11, 2017. Concurrent with the presidential election, Federal Council, People's Council, and many gubernatorial and provincial and local elections were also held on October 26.
The Laiatanese presidential election uses an instant-runoff system for voting, and a candidate must win 50% of the vote to bypass the runoff completely. Surkova did this easily, winning 61.6% of the total votes cast. A total of 47,142,556 votes were cast, out of a total of 55,707,244 eligible voters. Turnout was determined to be at 88%, up from the 2012 presidential election which had a turnout rate of 85%.
She is the first woman president of the Laiatanese Federation, as well as the second youngest at the time of her inauguration.
