The State of Marpa, commonly referred to as Marpa, is an isolationist nation in which the government is not specified. It is composed of six islands: Marpa Proper (by far the largest), Africanus Island, the Big and Little Northern Islands, and Plasma Isle, Platelet Isle, and Abrasion Isle, which make up the Bloody Archipelago. The nation borders no others, considering its status as an island nation. However, it shares waters with Tretrid, Mexregiona, and the Atlae Isles.

Marpa has an undisclosed population, but it is estimated that it is roughly 3.5 million. Rather than have inhabitants live in large urban areas, the people tend to live farther in the wilderness of the landmass. It is thought that the rural population of the country outnumbers the urban ten-to-one. In fact, it is one of the few nations on Urth that doesn't have an established capital. It also is a rare nation with an illustration of itself on its flag.

The history of Marpa is a bloody one, to say the least. The Altalandian Empire, which was the foundation for the present-day United States of Mexregiona, went on a rampage through the area in roughly 2,000 B.C., slaughtering and even enslaving hundreds of thousands of Marpans. Over the course of the Empire's demise, however, the Altalandian presence weakened on the island to the point where the inhabitants had full reign over their lands. Later in its history, though, it was invaded by another empire, yet not to such a scale. Today, the remnants of the Empire's atrocities stick behind, such as the remaining Native Altalandian population and the fierce hate that Marpa has for the people of the Mexregional island of Louisianaia.

LANGUAGE

Following the Invasion of Marpa by the Altalandian Empire, the languages of the area were put into place on the island. The speak offered by the foreigners was so related to Ancient Marpan that the populace had no trouble switching over. Over time, Latin took its place as the sole language of the nation. This was probably due to the nations of Mexregiona, Tretrid, The Atlae Isles, and Dovahofkiin all having the same base tongue in their history. Although the Marpan language died out in the process, the switch has proved to be a huge advantage for the Marpans, as not only do fellow neighbors speak the tongue, but the language is also simple to translate into Codexian and Unonian.

RELIGION

Marpa is perhaps the only place in Western Atlantia in which religion is mainstream and even compulsory in some areas. Marpism is the practice of intense, daily pray to the "Great Marpa" to relieve the people of "pain, suffering, and illness." Almost every person in the nation identifies with Marpism to some extent, and the number of followers doesn't seem to be slowing down. If anything, the religion is taking new steps in growth.

VEXILLOLOGY

The Flag of Marpa represents the country's struggles of the past. The image of Marpa on the illustration is meant to show the unification of the people under good and bad times. On the left side of the field is a red section portraying the bloodshed that has taken place due to the Altalandian Empire and other minor invasions. In the middle is the representation of present-day, colored grey, one in which no-one is sure what will happen tomorrow. Finally, on the right, is a white bar symbolizing the bright days ahead for Marpa under Marpism.
